I was named after my Mom – Valerie.

My nickname (given by my younger baby siblings) was ReeRee. They could not say VAL-E-RIE so they just said Rie-Rie (pronounced ReeRee). I am still called “Ree” by a few and Aunt Ree by some of the little folks in my life, but other than that, I am called Valerie (named after my mom). Rey is an even cuter and more modern version of what my little siblings named me!

In reply to Nichole Brockhan. That's a really good idea, Nichole! I like it. And then as Rey grows up maybe she'll chose Val after all but I hope she sticks with Rey, it's a beautiful name. As is Valaré.

My mom’s name was Valeré (pronounced val-ah-rey like the song). My mom passed away when I was in my early 20’s, and I’ve always wanted to honor her in some way in my future child’s name, however, I did not like the nickname that my mom went by “Val.” I always thought it sounded masculine. It just hit me, “Rey” would be a really cute nickname, and it will satisfy my husbands desire to name one of our children after a Star Wars character.
