My nickname growing up was Lissa. Then one friend of mine started calling me Lissy. Ever since then everyone calls me Lissy. Now, whenever I get called Melissa I feel like I’m in trouble because my mom always called me Melissa when I’m in trouble.

My mom has always called me MelBert, Bert, Bertie or Bertha. My grandma has always called me Missy Pooh from day 1 (which I hate) and I’m 44 yr old, but she’s my grandma and is the only one allowed to call me that LOL.. My aunt calls me MelBy.
In-laws, nieces or nephews have called me. Lissa, Lisser Rissa, Wissa, Aunt MoLissa. But I just go by Mel. No one calls me Melissa anymore, unless I work, and when i hear it, just sounds weird now!

the majority of my family would always call me mel and then my mom called me meli (melly? we spell it meli) or melibelle, my friends would call me millie and some honorable mentions are Malisha, mayee, melster, meluquinas, and meliss

Well, I remember pretty well that my parents called me Meli all the time. They still do it, thou. A teacher called Mellie once; a close friend of mine called me Melis. A girl I know calls me Mel. However, I prefer be called either Meli or Melis.

In reply to Melissa “Mitzi” G.. I have always been called Missy...short for Melissa. I’m a scientist, though- Microbiology. Something interesting I’ve learned in my profession is that a Genus of bacteria was described called “Melissacoccus,” extracted from the gut of a honey bee. As you’re probably aware, Melissa has Greek origins and means honey bee. I’m a total geek and had a t-shirt made that says “Melissacoccus sp.” with an image of a honey bee on the front, and also has the entire 16S gene sequence on the back.
