My name is Lesley Alejandra. And I actually like my name. My family and friends call me Lez as well. The only think I hate is that since it's not spelled Leslie, I always have people spell it like that instead of how it's really spelled.

I've also been called Lester and Lobster, but that was when I was around 8 and it never really bothered me.

I'm sorry that you ladies had to go through those experiences. I'm sure your moms never envisioned that the choice would subject you to such misery.

I think that situation is changing for this name as more and more people take a stand against bullying. Lesley started out as a Top 1000 name for girls in the USA in 1941 at No. 980 and peaked at No. 267 in 1979.

It has steadily decreased in popularity since then, probably for the very reasons that you mention. Last year, it was No. 816 (95 girls). Last year, 6 boys were also given the name.

Omg, I can't agree more with the "Lesley" that left her comment prior to mine.
I would NEVER recommend naming any child Lesley! First of all, we get called lezzy as in lesbian or anyother horrible things u can possibly think of.
My mom almost named me Jessica. Why didn't she? I went through total torture as a teenager

Would never ever recommend giving the name Lesley, in its feminine form to a child. My name is Lesley Anne, I'm 16 years of age and for the past 6 years I've had to put up with people of my age and even younger people making fun of my name. since my name is Lesley, they came up with Lesley the Lesbian and Lesley the Man. I laughed it off every single time or told them where to go in to uncertain terms, but that wrecked my childhood in an emotional sense. What's even worse, when I turned 12 my mum told me she was about to call me Naomi or Morgan. Which begs the question, why did she call me Lesley, and most probably it was because she thought it was a simple risk free name. Perhaps in the future, youth will take a fondness to the name Lesley, but I would advise any parent to strongly consider that it may impact on a child's life, in their child's teenage years that are majorly developmental and vital to what they grow up to be. I am not the only Lesley that has had this problem, I have spoken to a handful of others too.
